"The most important change we can make is about changing the way people think: less blame and judgement and more about resilience." – Judy Langford

The United States has one of the worst records for child abuse among industrialized nations. According to ChildHelp.org, an average of four to seven children die every day due to child abuse and neglect. With this in mind, The Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP) has made it its mission to strengthen families, enhance child development, and reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect. That's why they created Strengthening Families, a research-based approach consisting of five key points to implement and promote these goals. The points include: parental resilience, social connections, concrete support in times of need, knowledge of parenting and child development, and social and emotional competence of children.

As Senior Fellow and Associate Director of CSSP, Judy Langford's work includes field research, policy and program analysis and technical assistance to foundations, governmental agencies and private organizations on the development and implementation of family supportive practices and policies. Join Ms. Langford for the second program in our Family Resilience series, a conversation on CSSP's Protective Factors Framework.
