Welcoming our new Venture for America fellow, Julia Wang

Welcoming our new Venture for America fellow, Julia Wang

We are excited to announce that this August we will be joined by a new Venture for America fellow, Julia Wang (Fay, our current Venture for America fellow, is leaving us to go to grad school in Philadelphia).

Venture for America is two-year fellowship program that places recent graduates at start-ups in secondary U.S. cities. There are currently 20 VFA fellows in Cleveland and there are hundreds of VFA fellows in 18 different U.S. cities (including Columbus and Cincinnati, making Ohio the most well-represented VFA state). Fellows work at companies where they gain hands-on experience and have the opportunity to see a business or organization grow, and also experience a city where they may not have otherwise ended up in hopes of funneling talent away from New York and San Francisco and to cities like Cleveland.

You may be asking yourself, how did a 100+ year old non-profit sneak into a fellowship for startups? That’s not completely clear (blame Dan), but while we may be an old organization, we’re also a small organization constantly striving to find new and innovative ways to ensure that we are fostering conversations of consequence. We are so excited to have Julia joining us as marketing and outreach coordinator.

Julia graduated from the University of Michigan a few weeks ago. She studied environmental studies and business. A Toronto native, she grew up in Farmington Hills, MI, (a suburb of Detroit). These past few years, she's worked in state parks, research labs, non-profits, and as a yoga instructor. Julia enjoys good radio, sunshine, and big bowls of pasta. She's excited to join The City Club of Cleveland and call another Midwest city her home.

Julia will officially be joining us in August, so keep your eyes peeled for her and be sure to welcome her when you do see her.
