City Club Presents Third Anisfield-Wolf Book Award Forum

City Club Presents Third Anisfield-Wolf Book Award Forum

The Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards were established in 1935 to “recognize books that have made important contributions to our understanding of racism and our appreciation of the rich diversity of human cultures.” They are the only national juried prize for such literature and are headquartered here in Cleveland as part the Cleveland Foundation.

Three years ago, the City Club and the Anisfield-Book Awards collaborated to offer one Book Award winner the chance to speak from our podium. It’s a collaboration we’re very proud of as these authors embody the core of our mission - to provide a platform for conversations of consequence and to lift up voices that may otherwise go unnoticed by society.

This year, we’re pleased to welcome Lillian Faderman, recipient of the 2016 Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for Nonfiction, on September 16. She will speak on her book The Gay Revolution which The Economist hails as “the most comprehensive history to date of America’s gay-rights movement.”

Faderman joins fellow Book Award winners Ari Shavit and Marlon James on we hope will become a long and distinguished list of authors who will address the City Club and offer their perspectives on race, class, justice, and diversity while helping us participate more deeply in our shared humanity.
