Young Professionals As Civic Leaders
For more than 90 years, The City Club of Cleveland has been an important gathering place for individuals of all ages interested in a wide range of civic and community issues. To continue this longstanding tradition, The City Club formed an affiliate of younger members, the New Leaders. The New Leaders initiative creates a significant opportunity for emerging leaders to develop dialogues with established leaders as part of the city's ongoing business and civic growth. The New Leaders develop and implement alternative programming ideas geared specifically toward a newer generation of leaders and at the same time encourage participation in The City Club's more traditional events such as the Friday Forums.

The purpose of the New Leaders is to:

  • support the free exchange of ideas among young professionals

  • encourage a stronger presence of younger members in this important civic institution

  • promote alternative programming in support of The City Club's mission

  • position young professionals as civic leaders

  • assist The City Club with membership recruitment to ensure a thriving future for the Club

New Leaders Committee
The New Leaders Programming Committee plans and executes alternative programming in unison with the mission of The City Club. Committee members generate topics, invite speakers, coordinate logistical details, and promote the events. The level of commitment needed to be an active New Leader varies, from offering programming ideas to acting as event chair to coordinating marketing efforts throughout the year. The common thread among New Leaders is a sincere desire to promote the mission of The City Club.

The New Leaders plan programming that encourages free and open discussion about a host of issues – important topics next door, across the country and around the globe. The diversity of programming options lends itself to broad participation from our community.

Dialogues on Leadership
Here's a chance to experience a truly special benefit offered only to New Leaders of The City Club of Cleveland!

Very rarely do young professionals have the opportunity to sit down, in a private setting with Cleveland's most prominent leaders, and just talk. Wouldn't you love to pick their brains about their best advice for being successful? Or ask them any number of questions about their careers?

Reservations for these events generally are limited to 20 New Leaders to allow for a more intimate dialogue. The events begin at 8:00 am and last about 1 hour.

Evening Series Programs
The New Leaders offer evening events in order to encourage participation in City Club programming by young professionals and those who may work in the suburbs. Events begin with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 5:30 pm, presentations follow at 6:30 pm.

New Leaders programming covers a wide variety of topics, from the arts to the economy, religion to green building. Click here for a complete list of New Leaders programming.

Build Partnerships

Benefits

The City Club is the crossroads of our community. As a New Leader, you will enjoy the full benefits of membership, as well as opportunities to meet civic leaders from throughout the community. Through volunteering at the City Club, New Leaders have gained valuable leadership skills that have proved to be assets to their careers, regardless of the industry in which they work.

As New Leaders, younger members immediately have a vehicle through which to become highly visible in the organization. There are many ways to offer time, energy, and creativity that fit conveniently into a young professional’s schedule. The only requirement for active involvement is to become a City Club member. Members can join the New Leaders Committee or serve as a New Leaders Liaison to an existing City Club committee. Additionally, leadership opportunities exist in the New Leaders Cabinet.

The New Leaders Cabinet

The Cabinet provides overall leadership and direction for the New Leaders. An appointed Chair heads the Cabinet and also holds an ex-officio position on The City Club Board of Directors.

The Cabinet oversees event programming and budgetary matters and also hosts a bi-annual Steering Committee Meeting that includes New Leaders Liaisons to City Club committees and advisors from The City Club Board of Directors.
